Growing a Greener Tomorrow Through Our Youth
The Challenge: Environmental degradation and climate vulnerability directly threaten food security and traditional livelihoods along the shores of Lake Victoria. To protect the island’s ecosystem for future generations, there is an urgent need to instil environmental awareness early while creating sustainable resources for vulnerable households.
Our Impact: In a powerful blend of youth mentorship and climate action, Rusinga CBO partnered with local children to plant over 200 fruit trees across the island. This project teaches children practical, hands-on lessons in sustainable agriculture and ecological responsibility. As these trees mature, they serve a dual purpose: restoring local biodiversity and providing a long-term, sustainable source of fresh nutrition and income for families who can harvest and sell the fruit.
